Dreams are a powerful way in which information is energetically conveyed to us. Whether images are archetypal, prophetic, or literal, the signs and symbols can lead us to greater truth and understanding of our personal circumstances. Often, we are more open in our dream state—our egos and personalities are at rest, leaving room for enhanced receptivity. You not only receive insight from higher sources, but also poignant messages from those you love.

Select a Dream Journal

In this exercise, I would like you to begin exploring your own channels of energy communication by setting intentions before sleep and recording your dreams. You can select a specific dream journal to write your notes or use a diary you already have. Some people find it useful to have a microcassette or digital recorder by the bed to speak their dream messages, instead of trying to write before having coffee in the morning. Find a method, which is most comfortable for you. I do advise to make your notes before you leave your bed in the morning. Details are quickly forgotten once our feet touch the floor. This exercise is to be started just prior to going to sleep and finished upon waking.

State Your Intention

With a clear heart and mind, state your intentions and pose any questions to the Universe. Family, health, career path? This is all about your discovery. What is it that you want to know? Ask for clarity and guidance on the topic you desire to explore further. Such as: “Spirit, I am open to your guidance and information. Make clear any actions that would be helpful to my family at this time.” Find your own words for this sacred conversation. After stating your business in your heart, mind, and journal, you can settle down for a night’s sleep. Take it slow and start with only one issue. Pose this same question every night for a week. If you send a chaotic message, you just may get a chaotic response.

Capture Your Dream's Details: Five Essential Questions

When you wake in the morning, jot down any notes from your dreams in writing or voice recording. Don’t force the issue and only speak what you can easily recall. At this point, you are only making a notation and will go back to the information at another time to evaluate. After making your notes, simply go on about your day. If other information comes to you throughout the day, write it down and later transfer it to your journal.

When you have the time and space to examine your dream journal, take a look at what you have written and elaborate on any ideas or concepts that seem clearer to you now. When you look at different components of your dreams, ask yourself these questions:

  1. How did the dream make me feel emotionally?
  2. Does a person, item, or thing in my dream represent anything specific to me?
  3. Do I recall any particular colors, numbers, or names?
  4. Do I recognize anyone’s energy signature?
  5. Is there a message related to my specific intentions or questions?

Your Dream's Messages and Reflections

Spend some quality time contemplating your dream. Record each reflection in your journal and then … release it. There is no need to hold on to any one thing. You’ve taken it in, processed it consciously, and now you can let it go. This is the beginning of your dream dialogue—or your awareness of the dialogue. Be mindful. What is energy based, and what may be the ego’s fearful rambling? Messages I receive are often simple and to the point, without attachment or judgment. It is what it is. Try to remember that if it comes from fear, it is the ego talking and not the higher energies of yourself or someone else. It takes time to tell the difference, but it becomes easier as you begin to live with an intuitive heart.

Examine your dreams whenever you feel called to do so. If it starts to feel too burdensome, stop and begin again when you find joy in the process. Make it a family affair by asking your children about their dreams over breakfast. It is fun to discover that family members often have similar dreams, which is a shining example of our Field of Intuitive Harmony in action.
